Xanax (alprazolam) is the most addicting of the benzodiazepines. This group of drugs are anticonvulsants, but are primarily used to treat anxiety disorders. Xanax is the strongest of the group, where other types include Valium, Klonopin and Ativan.Xanax is the most addicting of the group, because your body eliminates it very quickly. You build a tolerance very quickly and will continually need more to produce the desired effects. Once the drug gets out of your system and there's none available, you'll develop severe withdrawl symptoms. If you become hooked on a relatively high dosage, your withdrawal symptoms will become worse and worse (delerium tremors, constant mood swings, akethesia, deperssion, suicidal ideation, panic, anxiety, stress and seizures).Once you become hooked on a benzodiazepine, you cannot simply stop or you can risk seizure and possibly death. You'll need to do it in a controlled manner, usually in a rehab facility and build a taper schedule under medical supervision and eventually be weaned off. It's very difficult to quit once your hooked and quitting can take a very long time.If I were you, I would seriously consider speaking to a physician to discuss your anxiety issues and only take benzodiazepines under strict medical supervision.
