Default What sedative is not addicted? - 01-16-2009, 07:20 AM

I use it a hour before going to bed(xanax) to relax my muscles and help me sleep. I know Xanax is addictive. I already use 1.5mg at night. Don't like taking sleeping pills. I also have fibromyalgia and trepiline helps with pain, but not with sleeping.

Maybe something over-the-counter like Unisom -- orTylenol pm just has the same medicine as benadryl (25mg per tablet) and that is the same dose as one benadryl caplet. Those are not addictive.Just ask your pharmacist or doctor to be sure it's safe with your other meds

Get the real answers from your pharmacist and the Addiction Research Foundation. They have up-to-date knowledge.

I have Fibromyalgia too and trouble sleeping. My doctor has me on 15mg of Remeron. It is an anti-depressant, however in the dose I take it acts as a sedative and is not addictive. My mom takes trazadone (also and anti-depressant) for sleep and it is not addictive either. There are also non-addictive muscle relaxants like flexeril, Zanaflex and others that you may want to talk to you doctor about. In some people Benadryl can have a sedating effect, however in others it can act the opposite and be more of an upper. Are you on any other medications for your fibro? Or is the one you are on controlling it fairly well? I've been on Gabitril for my Fibro and will be switching to Lyrica soon.Hope that helps!

the OTCs aren't bad-but minimally effective-even Ambiem and Lunesta cause dependance-they can be used a little longer than the older drugs-but will eventually lose their effectiveness-Melatinin adn other natural remedies may help a littleI know-been on everything from melatonin to Halcion----started with so called safer ambien-became dependent-moved up th eline-until tehyall quit working-i wnet into withdrawal-had a seizure and sufferent a brain injury-with persistant post concussive syndrome
