Default How long will Vicodin stay in my husbands system after quitting? - 01-03-2009, 11:11 AM

My husband was on Vicodin and then Norco for 2 back injuries for 3 yrs. The doctor's called it pain control. Yeah whatever!!! He ofcourse got addicted and tried to stop several times. He lied to me and our family for the last six months and told us he was not taking it anymore. I found out last week that he was still on it. Anyhow, he stopped"cold turkey"on Sat.Oct. 14 and still having a lot of withdrawal signs. How long will this last for? Did anyone get"crazy legs"(thats what we call involuntary leg movements? Any insight would be great!

crazy legs - restless legs. yep. sucks. there is a new drug specifically for that problem - ask a doctor. expect about a week or so of withdrawal symtoms. not fun. if he is taking benedryl for some reason, that will make the leg thing worse. no easy way to withdraw. sorry.ps.the psychological withdrawal will take considerably longer, depending on your husband's addictive tendancies. drug withdrawal was never as tough for me because drugs invariably make me nauseous to begin with. a normal person just feels reeeeaaallly good when they take vicodin and norco. the more pleasant the effects of the drug, the harder it is to stop craving it. i never lied to keep taking drugs, so i'd say your hubby is likely to have a hard time of it for a while. be there for him, and its ok to police him for a while. if the only reason he quit is because he got caught, u may be in for a tough time. quitting only works if the quitter wants to quit. he may not have been miserable enough to want to quit. god knows it wasnt hard for me to quit. i want to revise my earlier estimate...after 6 months, expect a 2 week withdrawal...dont be too hard on the poor guy - addicts are really NOT themselves - the drugs are controlling them, not the other way around. after he gets cleaned up, then it is his choice whether or not to control himself.good luck to you.

Your husband needs a 12 step program. He is addicted and this is the only support that is going to help him to do it right. Good luck.Pain management myass! These Doctors kill me, and they are killing all of us with these meds.
