medical doctor treating animals?

Default medical doctor treating animals? - 02-01-2009, 05:26 PM

can a medical doctor legally treat animmals. for instance i want my family doctor to call in some valium for my cat? Any problems there if the doctor is willing?

Cats do indeed take valium. Do you know for sure this is what you kitty needs? You need to be exacting in the dosing. I wouldn't do it. But that is just me.

I don't know about the legality, but the physiology between people and pets is different. Some things that are good for humans are bad for some pets. Some things that are great for pets are bad for people. Some things are fine for most dogs, but not for certain breeds or breed mixes. Vets are trained in what certain species and breeds can and cannot have. Medical doctors are only trained in human physiology.
