Default Valium for sleeping/addiction? - 06-04-2010, 10:01 PM

I have been dealing with insomnia for about the last 6 months. I was prescribed Ambien, which I did not like. It's usually hard for me to allow myself 8 hours sleep and I never felt good the next day.

I went to counseling thinking maybe I could get some help with the anxiety I have about sleeping. I didn't find that to be much help either. I just worry and worry about getting enough sleep, staring at the clock thinking about how many hours I have left.

I have a child and a full time job, so not sleeping is not working anymore. I have also tried Valerian root and melatonin, vitamin D, sleepy time tea, etc... I have a good bed hygiene, I exercise, no TV in bed, etc...

I was recently prescribed Valium to help and it does wonders. I take 4 mg before bed, go right to sleep, and feel great the next day! I don't have these issues every night so I only take as needed (3 times a week) I am so afraid of getting addicted that I don't know what to do. Can I develop dependency taking it this often?

I don't need a speech about how its not good for me, try other things, blah blah blah. I have tried everything, and have a concern for the addiction so I know the concerns surrounding this drug.

I really appreciate your help!

I've been taking Valium 10 mg for years. My mother and sister AR both addiction counselors. They hat a fit about it. I very rarely will take 5 mg during the day. I am taking almost every night right now because I've been sick and not sleeping. (Waiting for lung biopsy report). My psychiatrist has prescribed the Valium and each time I see him we discuss how much and why I have taken it. He is not concerned about addiction because he knows I understand the right times to take it. Good luck. Talk to the Dr. who prescribed it about your concerns.

I'm prescribed Valium and clone sty during the day and tempera for sleep during the night..i wouldn't worry about the addiction potential cause most times i take more than I'm supposed to which means i run out before the month is up but i never suffer from withdrawal i just use dimenhydrinate to fall asleep till i get my prescription again...4mg of valium is not to much at all especially only 3 times a week..i take 10mg valium 2 times a day and 2mg of clonazepam 1 time a day and 15mg temazepam in the night..i think you will be fine just talk to your doctor cause it sounds to me like you have anxiety very badly especially if your worrying about taking the medication thats gonna stop your anxiety..just don't worry about it take the valium and even ask the doc to raise your dose cause it seems to me you may need to do that....good luck
