Basically, someone comes in for a procedure, they get a shot for pain or for conscious sedation and then they go home addicted. Are there people predisposed to getting addicted this quickly?

Well , the answer is no because to be addicted or physically depend ant your body needs to depend on that substance in a way that if you stop it , withdrawal symptoms will start to appear.

Some people are more prone to addictive behaviors than others, but not after one dose like you are speaking of.
This question remind me of so many patients that I have heard over the years. They don't want any pain melds after a painful surgery for fear of becoming addicted. They will actually lay there in pain instead. It takes more than people think for a physical addiction, though a psychological addiction can occur more easily.

yes.

there is a genetic component to it. the victim does not know it will happen until the first dose, then its too late.

alcohol is the best example, if you look into the original documents written by people who saw how alcohol affected Indian tribes you would know.

At first its psychological addiction, but that is enough to inspire drug intake to make physical addiction.

cocaine is just about pure psychological addiction. ever hear of skinner rats? There is a lever that the rat pulls down to get a reward. They hook up a line of tubing into the brain of a rat that carries cocaine each time the lever is pushed. Then the set the lever that each time it is pushed it takes an additional push to get a dose. A rat will pull the lever thousands of times to get a fix. Then they disconnected it, and the rat will continue pulling to up to 10000 times in the hope of a fix.
