Default Very scary side effect of medication (rapid heartbeat), please help!? - 12-29-2008, 06:46 AM

I've taken Ultram (50mg) twice a day for back pain for about 6 months now. I've never had any side effects or problems with it before. As of last night, about 30 minutes after taking my usual dose, I noticed I had an extremely rapid heartbeat, my face/neck were red and itchy. The rapid heartbeat persisted all through the night, and I only got about two hours of very rough sleep. As I said, I've never had any negative effects from this medication, and I don't understand why it would suddenly cause problems. Is this possible? I can't get ahold of my doctor and the pharmacist I spoke with wasn't helpful at all. What should I do?I've been taking penicillin for about a week now, due to a tooth extraction. My dentist said the two would mix just fine. I've never had any problems with penicillin in the past, either.

If you've taken it for that long without any side effects than it's doubtful that the Ultram has anything to do with it. Do you take any other medications?
