Default will my friend lose her baby for pain killers? - 12-27-2008, 11:22 AM

when me and my best friend found out we were just a few weeks apart in our pregnancy we were excited. I am 22 wks, she is 20. she gets up in the morning and takes a loratb that is not prescribed to her, before her pregnancy she was on lortab for her bad back and valium for seizures. i was also on somethin similiar for eppilepsy but my dr. weened me off of them. she may take to lortab a day sometimes she taks ultram also, she says its a non narcotic so ita ok. she still takes valium too. we dont have the same dr, but i know he isnt prescribing these to her. we r best friends but i cant say n e thing, cuz it was hard to come off my meds, so i understand shes addicted. is this goin to hurt her baby is she keps on and dont they drug test u everytime u go to the dr?

They don't drug test you everytime you go to the doctor, but they do at delivery. If they are suspicious, they may test before delivery.Everything she takes, the baby takes also. So there is a good chance if she is addicted, the baby is also. There is also the danger of nuerological problems. She needs to tell her doctor exactly what she is taking and in what quantity. If the baby is born with drugs in it's system, she won't be taking it home. Child Protective Services will be taking it home.

first i think you need to stand up to your friend and tell her that her dr can prescribe her meds that is safe for the baby. she needs to consider she has another life growing in her and needs to take care of it. i dont know about those meds. maybe ask your dr and see what they tell ya.

They dont drug test you no.. i think they do a screening for certain things in your blood work in the beginning but im sure she probably told them it was for her bad back and they shrugged it off or something.. i know its hard but your friend has to learn from her mistakes, she will have an addicted baby if she keeps it up.. i knew someone who did heroin once during their pregnancy and now they have an addicted baby..

If she were my best friend, I'd call her doctor's office and speak DIRECTLY to the doctor. I would tell him that you believe she is taking this stuff and let him take the ball and run with it. Yes, there is always the possibility that it could end your friendship, but doing nothing is not being a friend either.

Yes your friend will loose her baby if she keeps taking pain killers that is prescribed to her. Yes it is very dangerous when taking medication that is not prescribed by a doctor because you really don't know the symptoms that goes a long with that could affect the baby.

I know that it is very hard to come off most drugs but it will hurt or even kill the baby. Ask her if she could ween her self off just until the baby is born.
