Default Changing Pain Meds...Need input? - 12-18-2008, 07:22 AM

Okay, so I have been taking Vicodin(7.5 mg) four times daiily (pls. don't judge me...thats not what I am here for.) Anyway, the Vicodin has lost its effect and I need to try something different but apprehensive to try something different. My doctor prescribed Oxycodone (20 mg) twice per day and I don't like it. its too much for me and I don't like that it stays in your system for 12 hours. I like the smaller windows of pain relief like Vicodin. What do you think of Percoset or Percodan for an alternative to what I was taking?? I would appreciate any personal expereinces that might help me. Thanks for your time!!

I would say percoset/percodan may be too weak compared to what you've been using. but it can't hurt to try. Also, have you tried Dilaudid (hydromorphone)? It lasts longer than vicodin but not as strong as oxycodone.

Once you graduate to Oxycodone, the Hydrocodone is gonna be completely useless. Regardless of what people think, Oxycodone provides a more intoxicating feeling but doesn't always work good on pain as well as Hydrocodone. Oxycodone hits different receptor splices that give more euphoria but not necessary more pain relief. This is why druggies like them. They feel buzzed. Fact. Also Hydrocodone with me lasted longer.Again, I tell everyone this. Perhaps if you switch to Lorcet 10/650's (The Blue ones) you might actually get more out of the Hydrocodone. A generic Vicodin never did a thing for me. Lorcets did. Different fillers and different brands all hit you differently. Just a suggestion. I am the wrong person to ask about Oxycodone, Had I stayed with Hydrocodone I would have never developed an issue. And as far as taking a 5mg Perc? Again once you do this, you would need 15mg's of HYdrocodone to work on your pain.Tell your Doctor you do not like the Oxycodone. Plain and simple. Once your on those 20's, than it's 40's and than 80's . Nothing will work on you, Morphine, Diluadid, nothing. Kiss it all goodbye. And the next thing you know a Fentanyl patch. The problem with Oxycodone is it is more addicting. What is gonna happen eventually over time, your gonna want to maintain a constant blood level of the stuff for it will create changes in mood as it gets more inefficient over time. So than your taking more Oxycodone to keep your mood in check instead of for pain and than you'll really have issue's trying to keep that blood level happy.
