break them in 1/2 and then 1/4 but when the pain comes back you will need them again. Once it is under control you can take them for the pain but just quit before it becomes habit again. I go through this every day of my life

This is really a question for a pan management specialist. For one thing, if you're taking it for pain, you may be dependent on it, but you are not addicted. Addiction occurs when people take pain meds not for pain relief, but for the emotional boost they give them. With the pain you have, some kind of pain management may be necessary for the rest of your life. Are you familiar with the intrathecal pain pumps?Again, a consultation with a good pain management specialist could do you a world of good. This isn't an easy situation. Good luck to you.

DO NOT break them. You did not tell us what dosage you are taking and some oxycodone is time released. With that said, I just went cold turkey when I came off my pain meds. It SUCKED....migraines, nausea, cold and hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, rage...but I did it. You can too. Be strong!!!

You say you have been taking percocet, and now oxycodone. Percocet is a form of oxycodone. Do you mean you are now taking Oxycontin? If so, DO NOT break these tablets. They are time released, and breaking the coating can cause you to get too much med in your system at one time.If you really want to get off the pain meds altogether, talk to your dr. about quitting. Sorry, but you will have some withdrawal symptoms after taking them for this long. Your dr. is your best source of information. Trust him/her.As a chronic pain patient, you have to ask yourself, would I rather take meds for the rest of my life, possibly risk addiction, but have some relief from pain and improved quality of life.......or.....Give up the pain meds for fear of becoming addicted, live in pain, and possibly detract from your quality of life. This is a choice only you can make.Good luck with whatever you decide. There are other meds out there that can replace what you are taking, and reduce the number of pills you need to take. One benefit is that there will be few, if any withdrawal symptoms. However, you will be trading one addiction for another.

Are you really going to want to live with all that pain for the rest of your life? I've been on percocet for 8+ years and I've also thought about it but then I think would I be able to do what I do now? Probably not. You have to weight the pros and the cons. When you take your meds do they enable you to have a certain quality of life or are you still in so much pain that you can't do much? If your on the right dosage you should be able to do some things that without the meds you won't be able to do. There is nothing wrong with taking medication when you are in real pain. It becomes a part of your life and so what if you have to take them for the rest of your life. You are in tons of pain according to what you said you have wrong with you. I wouldn't worry so much. In the future if things change and maybe you have surgery and get better maybe you won't need the pills but until then you shouldn't suffer. I wish you good luck.
