Alhamdulillah. The use of condoms or birth control between spouses is permitted; however both must consent to this, especially the wife. That being said, it is something makrooh (disliked) but we cannot say it is forbidden. The reason is from the Hadith found in Bukhari when Jabir (RA) stated:"We used to practice coitus interrupt us during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle."In another narration Jabir added"and the Prophet did not forbid us from doing so."At the same time, there is another Hadith which shows that while it may not be forbidden, it is makrooh:Abu Saeed Al-Khudri (RA) asked the Prophet (SAWS):"What is your opinion about coitus interruptus?"The Prophet said,"Do you really do that? It is better for you not to do it. No soul that which Allah has destined to exist, but will surely come into existence."In another Hadith, the Prophet (SAWS) referred to contraceptives and birth control as"the silent burying of infants".So it is not forbidden; however it is makrooh and all of the scholars say that it is not sinful to do it however it is better not to do it, especially if there is no reason (ex. the pregnancy may result in some difficulties or health risks for the wife at a certain period of time).Allah knows best.
