Since when has morphine been carried by soldiers? Wasn't standard issue when I was in.

I don't think they carry enough to get the habit but I would be surprised if it has never been used for the wrong reason. My Dad had his appendix out (this was way back, in the 1930's I think) and there were some complications when he was healing in the hospital. A lot of pain and morphine was prescribed. He had to have shots for an entire week. He said that he began asking for the shots because of the relief and feeling it gave him. He said that experience got him to understand how a person could get addicted to morphine.Once healed up everything was okay.Edit: I just did a quick google and the above answers are correct. It was only the medics that carried it.....but still....

I am pretty sure that only the medical staff are allowed to carry morphine. Doctors, Nurses, Medixes, and others like this. Maybe some in high risk of injury can care it, like Navy Seals. But as a general morphine can not be carried by just any soldier. I believe that it is true that some that are allowed to carry it, use it, and get hooked. But I would think the percentage of a very low number.

Its not carried by your standard recruit. most commanding officers have them. If somebody steps on an anti-personel mine and it blows half their leg off, they have about thirty seconds before they feel the pain (battle gives you a lot of adrenaline).its an officers job to sprint to him and jam the morphine into him before hes in a hurrendous amount of agony. As of now iv'e never seen anybody addicted to that nasty stuff. it feels like glue is running through your veins

1. Soldiers don't carry morphine individually. Medics have access to it.2. The military takes the same precautions any other health care provider does not to allow a patient to become addicted to drugs used in their treatment.
