I am depressed mainly due to a back problem,which is being delt with but it's just taking a long long time ( you know what the nhs is like ) and because of it my quality of life is suffering.I can't do anything or even walk hardley. I can't work because of it either.I am taking morphine and tramadol for the pain. Do you think depression tablets will help ?

Yes they would help tremendously and Cymbalta is one that even helps with pain too.
