Whats the chances of ever being clean if a herion addict goes on methadone to quit heroin, but still continues to shoot up heroin while taking methadone? Please I need help understanding my husband.He is 46yrs old, has been a addict approx 20 yrs. He holds a good job&seems normal to others. I have never done drugs so this is so hard for me. I am at the end of my rope so to speek.

No chance at all. Methadone was developed about forty years ago as a cheap replacement for heroin. The junkies used to sell it to street kids to get the money for the heroin. If he is mixing it, then he won't get off the heroin.

Heroin is a highly addictive drug derived from morphine, which is obtained from the opium poppy. It is a"downer"or depressant that affects the brain's pleasure systems and interferes with the brain's ability to perceive pain, which means it reacts with the opiate receptors in the brain and spinal cord. Methadone is a substance that also reacts with the opiate receptors, but tricks them thinking there is a narcotic in the body...so with this being said, you're getting an extremely dangerous double dose, and there is only so much the body can take. You need to react to this situation ASAP and tell this person what they're doing is extremely dangerous

If he is taking methadone and still using heroin he is not going to get clean. Addiction is a terrible thing and is hard to break. Maybe he needs serious inpatient treatment. Maybe he just doesn't have the desire to quit. Nobody can stop an addiction if they are not ready to.
