If I had to guess , I would say that it is because methadone causes an addiction about as bad an as the one it is used to treat.

I'm not sure what ibogaine is, but I know a little something about methadone. It's the most adictive substance in the world, and while it is more managable than heroin (even dosing, safe aqcuisition, lasting effect, etc.) it is terrible for your body and far more difficult to get off of it. Clinics that have clients who are on the"use forever"plan don't tend to see those clients for more than 5-10 years because they die.

Ibogaine cures addiction. You just don't need to take heroin or smoke.Methadone is addictive, and causes the deaths of several children in this country every year. They find it in the fridge and mistake it for juice. (It has to be kept cold)Once heroin addicts switch to methadone, they then have to come off of that. Plus taking a drug thats similar to heroin doesn't treat heroin addiction, its very easy to start again.
