Methadone does not get you high. Addiction to opiates is a physical as well as a mental addiction. Opiate addiction is not limited to heroin. Oxycontin, hydrocodone, codieine, propoxylene and morphine to name a few are prescription opioid, and addictions to these meds are growing daily. There are physical symptoms when coming off off a opiate, and a person can also die when they are going through detox. The use of methadone in treatment can really help not only with the mental addiction but the physical addiction as well. The problem with methadone is the treatment providers. If they are only giving out methadone with out treatment then the odds are the addict will relapse or continue to use. There are new drugs that surpass methadone in helping with treatment of opiate addiction. Burenorphine is one such drug. Addiction to opiates can be dangerous during the hieght of the addiction and in treatment. Opiate addiction of addictions is the hardest to lick.
