Default What happens it you mix Klonopin and alcohol? - 01-04-2009, 07:27 AM

I do this all the time to help me calm down and sleep....but i was told that it can be really bad to mix the two the way that i do (i take like 4-5 shots of vodka, then like 6 .5mg of klonopin...its like equal to like nothing i think) i was just wondering....can i die from doing this like taking a whole bunch mixed with alcohol?

You need to see your Dr. for something that can help you sleep. Before those 4-5 shots become 7-8 and so on. It is dangerous mixing alcohol with any medication. Your Dr. can give you something stronger to help you sleep and then no worries. Good Luck!

Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while taking Klonopin (clonazepam) . Alcohol may also increase the risk of having a seizure.• Klonopin (clonazepam) may increase the effects of other drugs that cause drowsiness or dizziness, including antidepressants, alcohol, sedatives (used to treat insomnia), other seizure medicines, pain relievers, anxiety medicines, muscle relaxants, and antihistamines. Do not drink alcohol and do not take any medicine without first talking to your doctor while taking Klonopin (clonazepam) .so, it's a depressant. Alchohol increases the effects of klonopin, alcohol is a depressant in itself. So, uh, yeah you are going to o.d if you keep this up. Please lighten up on the vodka... it is really dangerous what you say you are doing. I hope this is a joke!If this is not a joke and you are trying to find a way to o.d., please do not give in to it, please call someone, or go to the closest emergency room. I have had three friends attempt suicide, two were sucessful, one survived. Believe me, their deaths did not make anything better for anyone left behind...we are still mourning the loss of two wonderful people..whatever it is that keeps you up at night, can be worked out, there are so many people out there who want to help you get to the other side of this chapter in your life.... blessings- dd

well, for sure you'll be vomiting your guts out and get really terrible diarrhea! benzodiazepine+alcohol=things that damage your liver. I'd say it wouldn't kill you on the spot..maybe in few more years probably.

There is a synergistic effect when you mix two drugs like these together. In other words, they compound the effects of each other --both the desired effects like sleep and rest and the dangerous effects like respiratory depression and altered mental function. You are taking a risk with your health by taking these drugs, together. Whether it is a fatal risk is hard to say, because we don't know enough about your medical history, weight, liver function, etc. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist, or call the poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. They will give you an honest, confidential and nonjudgemental assessment of your risk. Good Luck.
