Is it safe to cut Dilaudid (HYDROmorphone) 2mg in half so you are only taking 1/2 the dose? I am not sure how i will react to the medication and I need to bve functional today. Is it safe to do this

Yes. you're just taking half as much thus reducing the side effects

It should be okay. Some brands of powerful narcotics are made so they become inactive when cut or crushed, to discourage drug abusers from shooting them. Check with your pharmacist to see if this is the case with your Dilaudid.

You're doctor writes the order for how much your doses will be. Make sure you talk with them and let them know you want to be offered smaller doses. It's very easy to do. The order can be written for you to have 1/2 mg, 1mg, or 2 mg, ever 1 hour (or other time schedule). If you don't feel you got enough pain coverage with the lower dose, just ask to have your next dose increased. The order will already be there, so it shouldn't be a problem. This is done pretty frequently, and it's a very safe way to use Dilaudid.
