I take 4-8mg every 4-6hours. It is not an extended release rx. It is just Dilaudid. But it seems to take at least a couple hours for it to kick in, if it works at all. I am also wondering if I can take my vicodin, that I was prescribed, along with it when it doesn't work, which is often. Can I? Does anyone know or know of any sites that explain how it works and gets into your system and it taking that long to see effects is normal?

you must have a substantial amount of pain to take 4-8mg of dilaudid every 4-6 hours. it takes an hour to break down from pill form and digest into your body, so yeah its not a liquid or other forms of ingestion. but why do you wanna add vicodin with it1?!?! isn't the hydromorphone enough to block your pain??
