Well, I've heard of people that have been crackheads for the better part of 20 years. It is not a pretty life as they end up doing anything and everything in their power to get another hit. They tend to lose everything that they ever had and just try to get by day to day. A lot of people on disability end up being on it. Prostitutes and thieves are usually supporting habits. Others get their hits by dealing or leading people to dealers and getting a "kickback". Addicts tend to run in streaks. They go hard for a little while and then they crash (either because they were up to long or because they ran out of money and the effects finally get them) or get arrested. If it is a crash, then they sleep for a day or two and then start all over. If it is an arrest then they sleep awhile and then start putting on weight because they are finally provided food and kept away from the stuff. Of course, the first chance they get after release they are back on it. Apparently there are also people that can do it in moderation and sort of "keep it under control", but they are few and far between. This drug is very strong and users have told me it even creeps into your dreams when you haven't used in awhile and really tries to get you back on it.
