[Baby Boy#1]

I just got back from the hospital. I have a respiratory infection, Urinary infection, and had contractions due to dehydration. The doctor gave me some antibiotic while been at the hospital. He also prescribed Cheratussin and Azithromyzin. I read that cheratussin has codeine and this medication may be harmful to an unborn baby, and could cause addiction or withdrawal symptoms in a newborn.I am very hessitant about taking it has anyone taken any of this medication while pregnant. I am 23 weeks pregnant and i am new at this.. I have an appmnt with my doctor tomorrow.The baby is doing real well. 1 pound 10ozThankscheratussin ac syrup

If the Dr. who prescribed it knew you were pregnant I wouldn't worry too much about taking it. You are probably at more risk not taking it because you need to get rid of those infections and they won't go away without medications.

Ask your doctor. I cant believe someone would prescribe medicines to you that were potentially harmful to your child. You are not supposed to take antibiotics while pregnant.

If the doctor at the hospital gave you the medication then im sure its fine. Just make sure you follow the dosage carefully. BUT...if you are that worried about it then just take the other medication given to you and ask your doctor about the one with codeine tomorrow at your appointment! Better safe than sorry but..if the doctor at the hospital gave it, again, i think your fine to take it.Congrats and good luck!

It is okay to take now. They are harmful/addictive in the last trimester at 30 weeks or so.
