It is mentally. You body mixes the anticipation for the pain relief and the chemicals from which your body is releasing from the pain all together. Kindalike anxiety, only with pain.

I suffer with bloated belly syndrome, I think it is related to IBS and so far I have found nothing helps better than Peppermint tea and a hot water bottle, the problem is I don't really like peppermint tea !!If you tablets are not working I suggest you visit your GP.

If it's a bad headache, because you've had to move to get at the tablets, and that makes the pain worse. Ouch! I suffer from IBS occasionally, and the tablets the doctor gave me are anti - spasmodic, which stop the painful spasms. I've never heard of aspirin and codeine being used to treat this condition, and aspirin is well known to irritate the stomach - I wonder if you should have a word with your doctor?
