Default Am I an Ativan addict? - 03-21-2010, 03:57 PM

I am a 24 year old female, 5' 8", 135 lbs, in great physical health. I was prescribed 90 1 mg Ativan tablets for severe anxiety to last 30 days.

I went through the whole prescription in 12 days! I only drink about six times a year! I've never even smoked cigarettes! I have just had such horrible anxiety recently that I really was having problems. Now I'm really screwed. I've gotten horrible "rebound" anxiety so bad I wasn't able to work today. I've started sweating really bad.

How long will this last? I had my last dose about 28 hours ago. I feel like shit.

avian is highly addictive. make an apt with the physician who prescribed them to you and tell him exactly what you just said. he will understand- believe me. He will help you wean off of them or will prescribe other medication to replace them. It will be even more dangerous for you to stop taking them abruptly because you will go through withdrawals. Those who work in health care see this almost everyday. Just be honest with him and tell him how quickly you went through it. You don't want to become highly addicted- it will ruin your life. Take control of it now. If you are completely out of the medication and are starting to have tremors, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal and/or muscle cramps go to the ER as soon as possible. They can help you.

You asked if you were an Ativan addict? Well you may not like my answer but YES. Any time you are not taking ANY medication as prescribed then it is being abused. I am a recovering addict myself and my drug of choice was Nubain shots for "so called" migraines. I took every pain pill I could get my hands on. I took my husbands pain pills from when he would go to the dentist. I took my Ativan and old Xanax pills all up. I took my roommates very old Hydrocodones, you name it I took it. I didn't drink either. I didn't like the hangovers so I took pills and would go to the doctor and get pain shots. I was on prescriptions drugs so I thought I could justify taking them by saying well they are prescription. That doesn't work though. If I was you I would immediately get off of the Ativan, and don't take Xanax either, it is also addictive. Try Buspar, it is non-addictive, and also try Seroquel, it is an anti-psychotic but used a lot for Bipolar or anxiety. Also I would try Klonopin, it is also addictive. I was on these drugs for several years before I even knew I was an addict. With the help of Parkwood Hospital and a drug and alcohol treatment center called Haven House in Oxford, MS I have over 2 years clean. AA is a really good place of support also. There is another group called NA for Narcotics Anonymous. Just check these out!

You could get addicted if you con tune to us your prescription so fast. I am on anti anxiety melds also and at my hardest time I have use more than I was suppose to. But you could be having the sweats and all just because you know you are out and with out them the anxiety could return, it might not be a addition thing it could be a fear thing. Anyone who haws had sever anxiety knows they would rather pop pills all day long than have that feeling come back. If your anxiety is that bad still you might need to see your doc, maybe the med you are on is not the right one for you to calm you down like you need and help you get over that fear. If it is so bad you went Thur your pills in 12 days the doctor needs to know, that medication might be just like putting a bandage on it and you need more help. If you run out and things get back call your doc right now. They won't be happy you went through them so soon but they would rather know now than you make your self suffer with out something. Get in and get help. Just being about to say all this is a good sign that you are not addicted and don't want to be you just need more help. Good luck

Pls go and get medical attention quickly... it can affect your heart beat too and that is bad... i had experienced anxiety attacks and you really need to fight it and be strong, and think positive. But a medical intervention is highly recommended immediately. Please.... go.
