Plain and simple. I am seeing my doctor today and he once threatened to commit me to rehab when I fell off the wagon

If a doctor deems that you are a significant risk to your wellbeing or the wellbeing of others,"meaning you'll kill yourself or someone else", He/She can have you committed.

If this is true, then I wish a doctor would have done this for my ex-husband. He went to rehab at least 9 times and it didn't help one time. I hope and pray that you can get on the wagon and stay there, not only for the people who love you, but for yourself. As soon as you can find contentment and happiness within yourself and learn to love yourself, then you can start to find this in other people. I wish you the best of luck on this battle, but if you truely want this, then it will happen.

A person can only be committed if he is an *imminent* threat to himself or others. A slow, long term threat doesn't count. So the answer is no.Your doctor can, however, refuse to continue being your doctor if you refuse to stop drinking. He will have to give you proper notice, but he doesn't have to put up with your alcohol abuse if you refuse to follow his advice.
