it might sound stupid because of my age(18), but i drink like 11 days out of 14, working in a pub doesn't help but i love my work. i always wake up feeling like shit and i only feel better after I've had a drink. alcoholism runs in my family going back generations. just want to know whether i should be worried or not. thanks x

I'd certainly seek some sort of help yes. You say alcohol runs in your family, so you're already susceptible to it, and for your age that is alto of alcohol to be consuming. A good way to tell if you may have a problem is not just feeling like crap until you've had a drink, but more specifically going through some sort of withdraws without it. Like if you hadn't had a drink yet you would get the shakes, and you would actually feel very ill like you had some sort of flu or cold. Try to go a few days without drinking, and if you've experienced any of these symptoms I would certainly seek professional help. Just because you're 18 doesn't mean you can't have a problem, especially if you're in an environment that constantly exposes you to alcohol.

Simple answer, YES. It sounds like you have already begun to develop some dependence on alcohol. It is good that you are aware of how much you drink and there is a risk of becoming an alcoholic because of your genetics. You should try to see how long you can honestly go before you HAVE to have a drink. The fact that you don't even feel good in the mornings until you've had a drink should worry you. I'm not trying to scare you but this should be a serious concern. Alcoholism is one of the worst addictions to try and overcome so you need to be careful. There is no shame in going to an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting to getting a clear picture as to whether or not you are an alcoholic and what alcoholism looks like in the average person. Be aware too that many people are considered "functioning" alcoholics. They seem like the average person, but the only thing getting them through the day is the bottle.

Yes, you should be worried. Its not a stupid question because of your age, you are much more intelligent to realize you may have a problem before it actually manifests itself in some way. Please seek help now, before its too late.

As much as you like working in a pub, you should find another type of job that is away from alcohol.

Best of success to you!

The thing is, I have struggled with a drink problem for years, but when you're 18 it doesn't seem to affect you as much. To be clucking for a drink at your age rings alarm bells.
I get that (I'm 34), whereby i have to sometimes have a drink in the morning just to function. Thats if i have been caning it quite a lot.
It's sh1t and has cost me a lot of women, money and more recently jobs. So you are right to check yourself.
